Waitrose sees 86% search increase for vegan burgers

Waitrose & Partners adds UK’s first seitan burger to its growing vegan range

Waitrose & Partners have added the first seitan burger to the UK market. Perfect for barbecuing or cooked in the oven, the new Seitan Pattie offers a solution for a complete vegan barbecue feast.

As the demand for vegan dishes continues to rise, searches on for vegan burgers has increased by 86%, with seitan searches up by 148%. There has also been a growing trend for vegan barbecue products with searches up by 175% compared to last year. 

Perfect for a bank holiday barbecue, the new Seitan Pattie is a succulent mix of seitan (a protein-rich food made from wheat gluten) and mushrooms combined to give an intense smoky flavour.  

Also new to the range is Mediterranean style sausage whirls that are available in two flavours.  An Italian style whirl contains aromatic roasted garlic, fennel, basil, porcini powder and sun-dried tomatoes while the Spanish style version boasts a smoky flavour that comes from authentic Spanish paprika, cumin, roasted garlic, chilli flakes and sun-dried tomatoes.

The new Korean style vegetable burger is inspired by the trend for lightly pickled vegetables and full of vibrant, punchy Korean flavours.  The meaty textures come from the soya and there’s a kick of chilli heat on the finish.
